Weedseeker – automatic spot spray system

Weedseeker – automatic spot spray system

The Trimble® WeedSeeker® spot spray system is an effective solution to help you efficiently control weeds. The WeedSeeker® system senses if a weed is present and signals a spray nozzle to deliver a precise amount of chemical—spraying only the weed and not the bare ground. It is most effective in areas where weeds occur intermittently.

HowWeedSeeker®works:

The WeedSeeker® system uses advanced optics and computer circuitry to sense the presence of a weed. When a weed enters the sensor’s field of view it signals a spray nozzle to deliver a precise amount of herbicide to that weed only. WeedSeeker® technology uses sensors and nozzles spaced at either 300mm or 380mm apart. This is due to the narrower field of view associated with the WeedSeeker® sensors compared to a 500mm spacing on a standard boom, allowing you to maximise potential chemical savings. Herbicide is reduced by between 60-90% on most spray applications.

how weedseeker works
The WeedSeeker® is being used in agriculture as well as orchards, vineyards, along roadsides, railways, airport runways, car parks, parks, hiking tracks, etc. The possibilities are endless.

Keybenefits:

  • Reduce herbicide costs – up to 90%
  • Reduce herbicide resistance potential – by applying the right product at the right rate to kill the weeds
  • Reduce herbicide drift – by applying chemical to hit the weed, nothing else
  • Environmental sustainability – by reducing chemical load in the environment
  • Water savings – by covering more hectares per tank load
  • Time savings – by reducing tank filling rate times
  • Can be adapted for Smart-N functionality
  • Operate day or night at speeds up to 21 km/hr* (15 to16 kph is the optimum top speed)
  • Retrofits to existing equipment
  • Ability to use more effective sprays without damaging the crop
*Higher speeds are achievable by remotely mounting the spray solenoid

WeedSeeker®Model650:

The WeedSeeker® Model 650 sensors operate on a 12V power supply and configured for a 300mm spray pattern, matching its 300mm field of view. The 650 model is ideally suited for use in vineyards where sensors are mounted 455-760mm from the ground. Systems may have a single or multiple sensors mounted on the spray system.

WeedSeeker®Model655:

The WeedSeeker® model 655 sensors also operate on a 12V power supply. They are configured for a 380mm spacing to match their 380mm field of view. The sensors operate at 610-760mm from the ground and can have single to multiple sensors mounted across a spray system. The model 655 sensor is used primarily in broad-acre applications so the sensors can be spaced further apart, allowing a reduction in additional weight added to spray booms by the WeedSeeker® system while still maximising chemical savings.

Applications

  • Targeted weed spraying in crop during initial stages of growth
  • Broad-acre fallow spraying
  • Targeted inter-row spraying
  • Vineyards
  • Tree crops
  • Industrial – airports, schools, railways, roadsides, irrigation ditches
  • Parks and hiking trails
  • Fungicide, insecticide and fertiliser application in crops
  • Can be adapted for Smart-N functionality
